Equality Parade 2006 - live report

English

23.26 - On indymedia are pictures (here also) from the demo.

19.05 - Two people from Germany are detained by the police, they may be given rather serious charges. At the police station on Wilcza Street one Warsaw activist is being held. The reasons for detaining the activist are not yet known, and the detention will probably not last long.

17.20 - there is not yet any confirmation of where the two detained people are being held. The police are providing varying responses regarding where the two are being held. About 30 antifascists are trying to find them at the moment, however, the police at ul. Wilcza 21 are noting everyone's identities rather than answering the question.

16.10 - anarchists and other anti-fascists are moving in the direction of the police station at 12 Dzielna Street, where it seems that two foreign anti-fascists are detained (including the German anarchist referred to earlier).

15.40 - we have received reports that the police have detained several more anti-fascists. Some of them are surrounded by a police cordon.

15.30 - the demo is ending at Theatre Square [plac Teatralny], now there are speeches, in 10 minutes it will end.

15.15 - speeches continue at Theatre Square from the motorised platforms. There has been an unconfirmed report that the German anarchist has been released. If this turns out to be false, then a solidarity action in front of the police station is planned.

14.50 - situation calmed down. The demo is going to Bankowy square.

14.45 - about 20-30 NOP-ers attacked the demonstrators. A struggle occurred.

14.15 - The head of the Parade is moving along Marszałkowska street. There are a few thousand people: about 5000 from Konstytucji Place to the Rotunda. There are two sound platforms on cars with speakers. We have reports that NOP-ers are trying to enter the crowd in order to attack individual people.

APPEAL FOR HELP!

English

Few days ago, on 16th of May, in the evening, an antifasciscist activist was attacked by two nazis, with clear intentions to kill him. They have been following him, and, suddenly one of them steped in front on him and used a pepper gas on him. Then the other one stabbed him in his back with 30cm long knife. Maciek fell on the ground and was kicked by the nazis for a while, with them shouting "We'll kill you, you leftist motherfucker!".

Maciek was taken to the hospital and underwent serious life-saving surgery (when he got to the hospital the doctors said that his condition was "critical"), and now is recovering. He still is not 100% OK, he still has blood in his lung. He says that he is sure that the attack was due to his personal data recent appearance on a nazi site called "redwatch". Redwatch is a web-site that have existed for several months now and it promotes the idea of "killing the enemies of the race" and the organization behind this is a very radical neofascist "Blood and Honor". The problem is that Maciek didn't have medical insurance, so that he may be forced to pay up to 20.000 PLN (5.000 euro).

Apparently the city of Bialystok legalized a pro-Giertych rally organized by fascistic Mlodziez Wszechpolska and an anti-Giertych rally organized by anarchists for tomorrow at the same time only a few meters away from each other. The right-wingers, realizing that they could only count on about 30 people to come to their demo vs. a few hundred for the anarchists, decided to cancel their action.
