An Anarchist Perspective

Although some anarchafeminists were amongst the organizers of this protest, and even though there were quite a number of anarchists in the crowd, radical analyses of the problem were quite marginalized at this protest. On the one hand, this is understandable: many people would like to gather as much broad support for this single issue as possible, thus they choose to avoid a deeper political stance. The focus has been very much on working through the legislative process to introduce a different bill.

There were voices from the crowd that a solution to the problem would be more women in politics.

Having "women in politics" however does not guarantee anything in this matter. Female politicians also have supported the hardline of the church on many occasions. Furthermore the sex of a candidate does not guarantee they have "better social policies". Even if one believed in the need to be governed better, which we don't, the sex of a candidate is clearly not enough to warrant support.

Electing enough people with views on certain issues may be enough to accomplish some reform on single issues which have no real impact on the capitalist system... but it legitimizes the role of the state.

We will not accept the role of the state, we will not accept that anybody has the right to govern, to make decisions and laws which effect our lives.

Instead of lobbying, we call for direct action now!
