Alicja Tysiac has three children. She’s got extremely impaired vision and is legally disabled, raising her children alone on a disability check. She lives with the three of them in a one-room flat 29 meters small and received 653 złoties a month – about 165 euros. In Warsaw where prices are already quite high. This woman is now one of the biggest villianesses in Poland. Her crime? She wanted to have an abortion.

Before 2000, Alicja was told that it was dangerous for her to get pregnant because of her unusual problem with her eyes; a pregnancy might even cause her to become blind. It was recommended that she get her tubes tied, but despite the doctors’ recommendation, nobody would perform the operation, Sterilization, like abortion, is a mortal sin in Poland where abortion has been illegal since 1993, except for in cases of rape, incest or illnesses endangering the health of the mother. Despite the latter possibilities of obtaining an abortion upon a doctor’s recommendation, most doctors will not perform the abortion and there have even been cases where doctors lie to the woman about her health or the health of her child.

Alicja was also told she couldn’t take hormonal birth control. She got pregnant and wanted medical permission to have an abortion in 2000 but was turned down by doctors who refused to recommend or perform the procedure. Alicja gave up looking for a doctor in her third month of pregnancy and had the child. It was delivered by C- section and she had a retinal hemorrhage during childbirth, As a consequence, she lost sight for a while but regained it shortly after. But her vision deteriorated to such a degree that she was defined as legally disabled.

Alicja filed a criminal case against a doctor who wouldn’t perform the abortion but the courts dropped it. In 2003 she filed an appeal at the European Court of Human Rights and she won the case a few days ago. The decision is here:

Alicja was awarded a pittance for her suffering and she’s raising the children alone in severe poverty. Even worse, she is being attacked by cruel bastards who have religious bigotry and hatred in their heart and suffer from a severe intelligence deficit.

Roman Giertych, the fascistic head of the League of Polish Families and the Minister of (mis)Education is one of those leading the battle cry. He was called the ECHR ruling scandalous, called Ms. Tysiac a murderer and has suggested withdrawing Poland from the Convention on Human Rights. His statements are even mild in comparision to some other attacks.

A disgusting litany of contempt for this woman is being poured out from all corners of the right, including the pretend centrist market liberals. This comes at the same time that the far-right are trying to get a total ban on abortion written into the constitution and are unhappy with the larger parties which “merely” wish to put the current rules, which allow “murder”, into the constitution. Everybody is trying to compete to be more pro-life than the next and the church is trying to mobilize mass right-to-life demonstrations. Father Rydzyk, the far-right anti-semitic moron who is a media mogul and multi-millionaire has explained to his idiotic and gullible audience that this is all part of a plan hatched by the Rockerfellers (and promoted by you know who!) to decimate the Polish population.

The attacks on this woman are absolutely unbearably crude and disgusting for anybody who has a shread of human empathy left in their brains and hearts after years of this far-right religious indoctrination. Disgusting politicians are moralizing about what a terrible mother this women is to expose her child, who is now 7, to this case. They have even made pseudo-scientific manipulations that the child will suffer from “survivor’s syndrome” because she will never really feel loved knowing that her mother wanted to murder her.

A great mass mob of self-righteous vampires are sucking up to the religious fanatics and jumping on the case with their condemnation. They don’t say a word about the absent father. They don’t say a word about the material deprivation the child must grow up in. The only thing they say is that women should have children or be celibate. The misogyny is all the more tragic because so many of those heartless assholes spreading the hatred are women themselves.
