Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich will be visiting the US on Tues. January 15 to talk about several matters related to US and Polish military cooperation.

Poland wants to send more troops to Afganistan. Klich has been quoted as saying:

"This is a good time to be talking to the Americans, at least about the question of regrouping our forces in Afganistan. Poland is interested in strengthening the visibility of our flag in Afganistan while there are a few other countries which would like to withdraw from Afganistan. With this background, Poland looks like a serious partner for the US which is a good bargaining chip that can be used with the Republican administration."

Another topic will be the installation of the American missile base in Poland. The government's position is to try to use public opposition to the base as another bargaining chip, this time to secure Patriot missiles and a C4SIR system for the Polish military.

According to recent opinion polls, about 60% of the population are against the installation of the American missiles in Poland. 28% are for the missiles with the rest of people uncertain.

Anarchists plan a mass demonstration in Slupsk on March 29 with actions at the proposed site of the missile base.
