Anarchists Freed in Russia
Andrei and Denis, the two anarchists unjustly arrested in Russia and detained one month, have been released. They never were charged with anything, but also they are not 100% in the clear. They are not allowed to leave the country. The anarchists were arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and for being anarchists. The state was looking to find terrorists who caused an explosion which derailed the Nevski Express train last month. Andrei and Denis, who were going to an anarchist congress, were found in the area. Despite the fact that Andrei's employers, the human rights organization Memorial, testified that he was at work in Petersburg at the time of the blast, the two were held. Their release came a few days after a brigade created by Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility for the act in a written statement. The group had also claimed responsibility for the act just after it happened, but the police kept the anarchists in custody anyway.
