Alarm at Rozbrat squat!

English

Yesterday, around 10 a.m. bailiff together with cops came to Rozbrat squat. The policemen drilled the lock of the gate, the bailiff had a court's permission to come in and estimate the price of the ground. The middle part of Rozbrat squat (including both concert halls, gallery, bars, library and part of the living area) was indebted for a long time by a company that doesn't exist anymore. The ground price evaluation today means that the ground can be auctioned witthin one or two months - that can mean the end of Rozbrat squat - the longest occupied space in Poland.

We'll keep you informed. Activists od Rozbrat count on you being ready to organize solidarity actions by you and your groups!

What does the bailiff have

What does the bailiff have to do with this case? Can you give more details?

The "bailiff" is not the

The "bailiff" is not the same in British (Irish :-)) and American English. In this use, the bailiff is the person / firm which executes writs and orders, for example about debtors. The bailiff may be in charge of repossession or eviction. In the US this could be done by a marshal or sheriff, less often (and usually not in the case of real estate) by a collection agency.

The visit of a bailiff to assess the value of the land should be seen as the first step in the process of selling the land and evicting the squatters. They may decide to evict the squatters beforehand to facilitate the sale of the property.
