As you all know by now, Russian corporation SUP has bought livejournal from 6apart.

Russian-speaking anarchists are quite horrified - in a country, where in certain regions 99% of voters "turned out to vote" (like in Grozniy), and in one region 99.84% "voted" for ruling party (in Kabardino-Balkaria), it is little doubt that a domestic corporation is very vulnerable against any state pressure. In the past, Russian state has organised DDoS attacks against some live journal pages and communities, but now they have much wider means of pressure they may use.

When SUP was controlling just Russian language segment of live journal, there was an option to "refuse from their services", but now anarchists are facing some difficult choices, as moving out from livejournal would deny anarchists a big part of their audience. A good number of anarchist bloggers holding high positions in yandex.ru rating of Russian language bloggers (http://blogs.yandex.ru/top/), for example tupikin , maskodagama , streetsmedia , mikola_a ,avier38 anatrrra , copylefter and some good anti-fascist comrades as well, such as resistenz_a , have a wide readership. anarchism_ru is also among most popular political communities in Russian language livejournal. As livejournal has many services standalone systems do not have (security controls etc.), it is likely that anti-authoritarians would no reach such a wide readership in other platforms.

Although another social networking tool, www.liveinternet.ru, is now almost as popular as live journal, livejournal has a profile of "intellectual" resource and has become a home of much of the opposition in a country where you do not see opposition in television.
