Opole, Poland: Anarchists Boycott Elections, the Labour Party is kicked off list
In the Polish city of Opole, anarchists are, like their comrades around the country, participating in anti-election campaigning. Among the different posters they are putting up is the famous old anarchist standard "Every politician is a two-faced whore" which is one of the main subjects of interest in the local press. The tough criticism of the political circus made by anarchists is the subject of an internet poll; as of publication, about 45% of readers are somewhat or totally sympathetic to the anarchists. The newspaper also tells the public where they can download anti-election posters themselves, from the pages of the Anarchist Federation.
Anarchists in Opole are organizing themselves and today are organizing two film showings about the anarchist movement.
The other interesting news from the city of Opole is, for the second election in a row, the Labour Party has been caught putting people who didn't even know they were running on the election ballots. So far seven people in Opole, out of a list of 15, can come forward and said they knew nothing about being candidates. The electoral commision threw them off the local list.
The Party, which still enjoys the support of some leftists, has been particularly deceitful this election. It turned out that they also found candidates to run at the top of their lists that had the same name as party leaders, mayors, ministers, etc. No small job - they found about 30 of them, matching the names of the most popular politicians. No doubt some retirees will check the wrong box on the ballot due to the deliberate confusion. The Greens filed a complaint against them to the State Electoral Commission for misleading voters into thinking that they were running on their lists.
