Poland: Warsaw - death of a squat

Thursday evening activists from the Warsaw squat Elba met to discuss the news that their squat might be evicted. Yesterday, Frdiay, April 13, the found out that the concert and meeting space would be destroyed on Monday and that the living place shortly after and that they would have to move. So far there does not seem to be any talk of squat defence.

Squat update: so far, only one part of the squat has been destroyed. The living place is still up.

This is all part of Warsaw's gentrification process.

The place the squat is one will eventually become speculative real estate. I say speculative because much of the flats being bought were purchased by either foreign investors or banks. The immediate use of this land though is quite interesting: they're going to store building materials on it, to be used for buildings going up on the territory of ANOTHER SQUAT - Fabryka. It seems like this cannot be a coincidence.
