Irish anti-war activist Damien Moran, acquitted in Dublin Circuit court 18 months ago by jury trial of doing €2 million damage to a U.S. military plane at Shannon airport as a protest against the Iraq war, was deported from the U.S.A.Sunday by Homeland Security agents at Chicago's O'Hare airport.

Polish-based Irish anti-war activist deported from the U.S.

English

As well as a a ploughshares acquittal to his name Damien Moran now has the privilege of being sent packing on a one-way flight from Chicago airport to Warsaw just 5 hours after he had landed.

Moran stated that he was "immediately detained and questioned by Homeland Security officers about our Ploughshares action at Shannon in February 2003 where we did $2.5million damage to a U.S. Navy plane."
More info. here(WarOnTrial)

He continued: "I informed them about our action and acquittal with pleasure. They were none too pleased. When the idiotic Officer Bock shouted out that deportation was the least of my problems I decided there was no point of pushing his buttons too far. I made my anti-war statement, explaining that I was en route to visit my brother in Virginia, then planned going to Colorado Springs and Nebraska to speak at anti-militarism conferences/panels and demonstrations."

Moran says that he has lost $350 dollars in flight expenses while the Global Network (www.space4peace.org) Against Weapons in Space that invited him have been setback over $1,000. Compared to the U.S. spending on the Iraq war, over $2 trillion, it's a drop in the ocean. But the fascists that control U.S. borders couldn;t give two shits about wasting working citizens and peaceful organisations finances.

Communique from Bucharest: The Common Voice from the anarchists and anti-militarists who gathered in Bucharest in April 2008

English

The Common Voice from the anarchists and anti-militarists who gathered in Bucharest in April 2008 to protest against the NATO summit

As long as there will be war, as well as systems and organizations that support militarization, murder, and profit-making from conflicts, there will be always movements protesting against them. Nowadays NATO is the most influential military alliance in the world. That’s why wherever a NATO summit will take place there will be people resisting it. Bucharest is not an exception.

In spite of the media intoxication as well as governmental repressions, which started already months before the summit, hundreds of anti-militarists both, Romanian and international, gathered in the capital city, Bucharest.

Repression at Anti-NATO Action in Romania

English

UPDATE April 2: Everybody expect one guy has been released.

There has been some mass repression in Bucharest. 46 Anti-NATO activists were arrested at the Convergence Center a couple of hours ago. People were beaten while being transported to the jail. (Of course Romanian TV showed some parts of a "civilized looking" arrest. No guns and batons on camera.) At least one person is hospitalized and others require medical attention.

At least some of them are at the police station called "section 11". A small picket is going on there now.

These are the phone numbers and address:
021/313.69.45 / 021/321.72.12
Address: Politia Municipiului Bucuresti, sectia nr. 11. Calea Vitan, nr. 43.

There is unconfirmed information that other activists may be held at the section 10 station.

Prior to this, numerous repressive actions were carried out by the police, including intimidation, arrests and barring people from the country.

A report from activists which was sent earlier today:

Massive Repression during the NATO Summit in Romania

One day before the start of the Nato summit in Bucharest the situation gets worse. Hourly alternative looking people are detained by the police for no reason. Afterwards the police construct absurd offence, for example carrying a pocketknife amounting to possession a weapon. Every person coming to or leaving the convergence center is in danger of getting detained (some simply for walking to a nearby shop). The detained are interrogated, photographed and fingerprinted in police stations, and held for up to 24 hours.
At the Romanian border several groups of activists, as well as others, have been denied entry into the country.

The most involved Romanian activists around the country have at this point been visited or called by either the local police or SRI (Romanian information service) to be warned against participating in any anti-nato protests or to have their families intimidated.

27000 police officers, military, snipers and secret police are occupying the city. The security alert code yellow has been announced, meaning that all demonstrations are forbidden in the whole city amongst other restrictive laws.

In the face of this repression the actions of the few activists present are severely limited. Therefore we urgently need your solidarity. Please make solidarity actions in your cities.

The open letter to common people of Romania (by some Berlin anarchists)

English

We will see you on the streets of Bucharest: Promised is promised!

Here in Berlin we have heard last days that for some reasons some clever people sitting at the power position in Romania are trying to antagonise the common Romanian people and the anarchists by spreading rumours about an arrival of the “bus with Berlin anarchists” to Bucharest for the anti-NATO protests. If this is a fact, we, anarchists from Berlin, would like to confirm the information about the arrival from our side, but what is much more important, is to explain our motivations behind visiting Bucharest at the beginning of April to the people in Romania.
