G8: Block G8 in Georgia
Czytelnik CIA, Czw, 2007-06-07 09:19 EnglishTomorrow on June 7th, 2007 in Tbilissi, Georgia the initiative group "Block G8!" organizes an action of solidarity with the protests against the G8-Summit in Heiligendamm. Public viewing of the newscasts from the independent g8-tv will take place in the central Republic Square. Print and
photo materials will be distributed. The action starts an 7 p.m.
"We condemn strongly the unseen repression of German police against the legitimate protests of thousands who want to block the G8-Summit. Global
processes prove that capitalism is devastating and creates unfreedom. The problems we have here in Georgia with low wages, social exclusion,
privatization of public services and nationalism, which does not contradict but in fact legitimizes the liberal capitalism, are similar to those present worldwide both in the so called "industrial" and the "developing" countries.
So, people protesting in Heiligendamm to block and deligitimize the G8, are fighting also for the realization of our rights. And with our action here in Tbilissi and our protesting against neoliberal politics in Georgia we want to support them and show that the struggle against capitalism must be carried out globally", says one of the activist of the initiative group.
G8: Evidence of Police Brutality
Czytelnik CIA, Śro, 2007-06-06 18:54 EnglishMs. Strutzinsky of the Republican Laywers Association speaks of the proceedings of the police and the so called Kavala, which according to Ms. Strutzinsky acts like a 'state in the state' and practically disempowers the local police and justice. She shows pictures of an example of police brutality. Watch the video!

International Organisation for Migration attacked in solidarity with refugees
Czytelnik CIA, Śro, 2007-06-06 12:46 English IOM attacked in solidarity with refugees and migrants.
On the night from the 5th to the 6th of June, we attacked the office on the Schinkelkade of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The windows were hit by stones and paint. We also glued the door shut and sprayed slogans on it. We did this action out of solidarity with refugees and migrants, and against organisations like the IOM that helps governments with the discouraging, deporting and detaining of these people!
The IOM is active in 91 states as an organisation that helps governments with their racist refugee policies. Their function is firstly to discourage people to flee from their country. They do this by creating a distorted and hopeless image of their chances in the west. They also negotiate with refugees to send them back where they came from by giving them redemption money. This should apparently give a humanitarian face to the refugee policy, while this is just a cheap and easy solution for governments to send people back. These people have the right to stay here, but thanks to the misleading rhetoric of the IOM, they are kept from doing so. Governments profit in more ways from IOM's work. Namely, the IOM regulates from an economic perspective where cheap labourers are needed, and where they aren't. It is a disgusting fact that the IOM decides about the fate of refugees just from a free market point of view. When there are too many people seeking asylum, they don't just discourage them, but provide practical assistance as well. As is known the IOM runs a detention camp on the island of Nauru to keep refugees from entering Australia
G8: Star March banned again
Czytelnik CIA, Wto, 2007-06-05 10:39 English* Total banned area for the Star March once again expanded
* Heiligendamm officer-in-charge known as violent
* Further interference by the police likely
The Star March coalition registered so-called 'substitute-events' on Sunday. This was to safeguard the right to demonstrate should a complete ban be confirmed by the federal constitutional court.
Yet just a half day later the special police department 'Kavala' also banned these events despite the fact that they were mainly outside the banned zones I&II. A demonstration in Kuehlingsborn is affected by this, as is a rally in Boergerende and a march from Bad Doberan through Steffenshagen to the National Motorway 'B 105'.

Several decentralised actions have taken place so far. A demonstration with several thousand participants at the Immigration Office in Rostock, and another at the Sonnenblumen House in Lichtenhagen, where the Nazi attacked refugees in 1992. These were followed by a big march and rally in Rostock, which finally started at 4pm after hours of negotiations with the police. The police did not allow the demonstration to go into the town centre.Decentralised actions also took place in other cities throughout the world.
Protest at Immigration Detention Center
Czytelnik CIA, Pon, 2007-06-04 20:24 EnglishImmigrant rights activists have locked themselves to the entrance gates of the Houston Processing Center, an immigration detention facility in North Texas. Immigrant rights activists have locked themselves to the entrance gates of the Houston Processing Center, an immigration detention facility in North Texas. a statement from the activists:
This week the leaders of the richest and most powerful 8 countries in the world are meeting in Germany for the Group of 8 (G8) conference. During the G8 gathering these leaders will continue to strategize and promote the economic and political policy of neoliberal "globalization". These 8 nations, which compose 65% of the global economy have pushed for an economic system which impacts the whole world, making the rich richer, and impoverishing millions..Today, June 4th, the Dissent! Network in Europe has called for a Global Day of Action for freedom of movement and equal rights for all! We here in Houston, Texas, USA have heard this call to action and share the same concerns as our brothers and sisters in Europe and all over the world who are taking action today in solidarity with migrants and refugees of the global economy.

Rostock. Today a video appeared on the alternative media portal "indymedia" which showed the street battles on June 2nd in a different light.
Whilst Police claimed to have reacted to attacks, it is quite clear in the video that the skirmishes were intentional to create brutal arrests.
G8: Media, Police, ATTAC Spokesman Scapegoating Foreigners
Akai47, Nie, 2007-06-03 18:28 English164 arrested in Rostock. 17 still held - disproportionately foreign. Of the 164 arrested, 16 were foreign, yet the xenophobes from the media and even organizers of the demo are blaming them for the violence.
The German media is claiming that the riots which took place yesterday in Rostock were caused by "foreign anarchists". (Not of course by their local gestapo.)

G8: Briefly on Police Repression, June 2
Akai47, Nie, 2007-06-03 08:39 EnglishA large international demonstration took part in Rostock yesterday as part of a multitude of events planned to protest the G8 Summit which will start a few days in the town of Heiligendamm on the Baltic Sea.
No doubt, some readers have seen reports on the TV or read accounts in the mainstream media. These reports, like almost everything else which can be found there, tends to be biased and present a picture of the “poor police” being attacked by crazy hooligans. They totally lack any perspective from the other side, including incidents of unprovoked police violence. They also tend to give inaccurate information.

G8 Mess in Schwerin
Czytelnik CIA, Sob, 2007-06-02 11:43 EnglishJust hours before an antifascist demo was to take place in Schwerin, it was banned AGAIN. Police met demonstrators at the train station, in the street and by pulling over cars. They were handed notices that said they'd be arrested if they returned to the area. The antifascists decided to launch another court appeal and waited in the train station for the decision of the court. In the meantime, the police have surrounded the station and penned people in. They have water cannons and other equipment and look to be preparing to start a riot.
