Immigrant May Day in LA

English

Tens of thousands of advocates for immigrant rights took to the streets in Los Angeles and the rest of the nation today, hoping that passion would offset the smaller turnout from last year's demonstrations.

May Day in Istanbul

English | Ruch anarchistyczny

Yesterday (1st of May 2007) Istanbul governor locked up the whole transportation system in Istanbul just not to let DISK (a leftist trade union) and others to have the Mayday celebration in Taksim square. His stupid attitude caused a real warfare; lots of people got stucked in traffic. According to the official reports, 799 protestors got arrested all around the city - many without any reason. Many so-called "ordinary" people suffered from police attack; TVs show one guy who was slapped by a policeman just because he was sitting in a downtown cafe with some friends. Many people got sick related with tear-gas and such chemicals including "ordinary" people. There was a terrible smell and smoke all over Taksim-Beyoglu area. There was also great repression on the media; lots of reporters were beaten and live broadcast wagons of TV channels got arrested for a while just not to make news from Taksim square. Even the VERY mainstream Hurriyet newspaper started an online petition to protest Istanbul governor M. Guler and Minister of Interior Affairs calling the governor "Istanbul dictator".

On the other hand, anarchists managed to enter Taksim square as they have declared a few days ago.

Warsaw Conference: Ideas and Action

English | Ruch anarchistyczny

On April 28-29 in Warsaw, a conference on Workers' Resistance in the New Milennium took place in Warsaw. The conference unfortunately did not draw many people from outside of the anarchist movement, which meant that the format changed from presentation to debate and more concrete discussion very quickly and soon turned rather into a strategy and networking meeting.

Auction of Köpi by order of the court
Speculators and investors - be warned: Köpi remains a capital risk!

Since the 8th of February 2007 it has been planned that Köpi (anti-authoritarian, autonomous and anarchist house-project) and the trailer park next to it are to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Tuesday the 8th of May this year. Yesterday (23.04.07) we at Köpi only found this out by accident. While we were celebrating the 17th birthday of Köpi, investors and speculators already knew that the Köpi and the plot next to it where the trailer park is located are again coming up for sale. The bid for the Köpi is starting at 1.670.000 Euro. The trailer park ground is to be split into 3 parts and sold for a total of 1.815.000.

Crime and Punishment - Kaczynski style

Kraj | English

The PiS led gvt. coalition being unhappy with the 1997 penal code have adopted far-reaching changes through the Council of Ministers today. Kaczynski stated that the alterations were so huge that "we can talk about a whole new penal code." According to the Warsaw Voice amongst the biggest amendments will be the the wholesale sacredness of homes where homeowners will be effectively permitted to kill intruders. Up until now one could only justifiably react towards the burglar/thief by killing in self-defense.

Teens will now be tried and sentenced as adults at the age of 15 compared to the previous threshold of 17 years. Furthermore, the law would also drunk drivers' cars to be confiscated by authorities. And as has always been expected, the punishment for a wide range of crimes are to be increased.

Rejoicing in the Victories of Comrades

Ekologia/Prawa zwierząt | English

During the period that the Rossport 5 were battling on the west coast of Ireland against the deaf ears of the Irish State and the greedy bastards that make up Shell Corporation, myself and 4 friends were on a marathon trek through the Irish Circuit court system due to anti-war activity against the U.S. military use of Shannon Airport, just 100 miles south of Willie Corduff's unspoilt farmland. It was heartening to see people from a largely unknown and unheard of small community overlooking the Atlantic ocean stand up for their rights and confront the isolating atmosphere of court systems, public spotlight, corrupt politicians, violent cops, and heartless corpopricks.

Emperor Blush -Poland's Euro Championship Defender!

English | Ironia/Humor

Throw in or Throw up?

Now that it seems likely indeed that the U.S. (mis)administration's Emperor Blush is coming to pollute the Northern Polish Hel peninsula's area of Jurata in early June, the big question arises as to whether U.S. plans for an Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense System in Poland will be in modus operandi for the security of the Polish/Ukraine hosting of the 2012 Euro Football Championships.

Campaign against Permatemps and Hewlett Packard

English

One of the biggest impediments to organizing is the “permatemp” phenomenom. In Poland, the amount of people who are forced to either set up their own company to be hired or who work through agencies or intermediary firms is extraodinarily high. Private employees feel entitled to do so because the leading pundits of economic opinion have built a “consensus” that the main cause of unemployment in Poland is the high cost of unemployment, meaning the cost of social benefits.

Poland: Anti-fascist action in Krakow

English

On April 14, fascists from the group ONR decided to hold a march in Krakow. It was the 73rd anniversary of its founding, but also it was the time when Jewish and Israeli youth come to Krakow each year for the March of the Living, a kind of tribute to Holocaust victims. So really bad taste - and of course the march was accompanied by different antisemitic slogans, etc. etc.
